Chapter 202
chapter202
How did Paul figure out that Maisy had obtained Joe’s whereabouts from someone else? No wonder Charles had warned her not to underestimate Paul. It seemed that no one Joe kept by his side was simple.
“Really? Do you think I can’t trace your information to whichever investigator you hired?” Paul looked at Maisy as if she were a fool. “Don’t act like a smartass. If you harass Mr. Martin again, the Williamses will be doomed.”
His smile vanished, replaced by a chilling assertiveness. Maisy’s face turned ashen. She hadn’t expected her plan to be exposed so quickly. “You’ve all been deceived by Skylar!” she snapped, her voice trembling with rage.
Paul had no interest in continuing this farce. He strode toward the elevator, leaving Maisy dejected. Flabbergasted and seething with resentment, Maisy bit her lip. “Skylar, I swear I won’t let you have the last laugh. So what if Joe is backing you now?”
Maisy took out her phone and found Janine’s number. With a condescending sneer, she sent a manipulative voice message. “Mom, I’ve realized how wrong I was. Please forgive me. If you have time this weekend, I’d like to visit you.” Janine, feeling conflicted as a biological mother, eventually replied and agreed to meet.
Back in his room, Paul took a shower and sent a message to Skylar: “Maisy followed Mr. Martin to the hotel. She might suspect you’re with him, but she doesn't know about the marriage yet.”
Skylar frowned. Maisy was like a persistent, sickening leech. “Mr. Ziegler, can you recommend a reliable private investigator?” she texted back. Once she had the number, Skylar called the detective immediately to set her plan in motion.
As she lay on her bed, her mind drifted to her past life. She remembered being bedridden and frail, while Maisy had tormented her with scandalous revelations. In that past life, Maisy had even involved herself with illicit, controlled substances she obtained from shady back-alley dealers.
Skylar wondered if Maisy had started using those substances in this life yet. Initially, she had planned to wait for the Williams family’s bankruptcy, but now she decided to move faster. She would expose Maisy’s illegal transactions and send her to ruin step by step.
Interestingly, the "butterfly effect" of Skylar’s rebirth had changed things; Christopher, who was once inseparable from Maisy, was now relentlessly pursuing Skylar instead.
The next day, Maisy spotted Joe at the airport. She considered approaching him but hesitated when she saw Paul’s cold stare. “Fucking Skylar!” she cursed under her breath. “I’ll make sure you lose everything!”
Meanwhile, Alexander received a frantic call from his butler and hurried home. He was worried about Caleb, who hadn’t left his room or eaten for days. Alexander knocked twice on the door.
“Come in,” Caleb’s voice sounded from inside. Alexander opened the door and was shocked by the scene. Caleb was lying on his bed, surrounded by a mountain of open books.
