Chapter 1750
chapter1750
Zera now had several scripts to choose from at will-something that would have been unthinkable in the past.
Aiken's expression grew even colder, and he said nothing further.
This left Zera feeling particularly anxious. However, she wisely chose to remain silent, understanding that speaking further would only worsen things.
In the hotel's presidential suite, Joe had just finished showering. While towel- drying his hair, he sent Skylar a photo.
At this time, Skylar was likely about to take her lunch break. It was also Joe's usual time to rest, though he rarely slept much when he was away from home.
As soon as he sent the photo, Skylar called him for a video chat.
"It's nearly 11:00 pm for you, right? Still working this late?" Skylar asked, her gaze lingering on the redness in Joe's eyes. She frowned, wondering if he'd been having trouble sleeping again.
Joe focused intently on Skylar. It had only been a few days since they last saw each other, but he already longed to be close to her. "I just finished showering and was about to sleep. My eyes are red because shampoo foam got into them. Have you finished your work?"
He loved watching Skylar work so seriously in her office attire. There was something almost divine about her presence.
"I just wrapped up. When you get back, I won't have any work to do, so I can spend time with you and Vivian. By the way, are there any good Floan restaurants near where you're staying? Make sure you eat well," Skylar said.
She was beginning to understand the saying, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder".
There were times when he had been away on business for two or three days, and it didn't bother her much. But in recent years, he rarely stayed away for more than five days.
Joe smiled. "The hotel offers Floan cuisine, so I'm sure I'll be eating well. Have you missed me?"
"Every day. Vivian asks when you'll be back every day too."
"In a few more days, I can't wait to come home and sleep next to you," Joe replied, his voice soft with longing.
They chatted for a while longer, but Skylar had to leave for lunch with her colleagues, and Joe needed to rest. Reluctantly, they ended the call.
Just as Joe was about to turn off the lights and go to bed, there was a knock on the door.
Joe furrowed his brows. "Who is it?"
"Mr. Martin, it's me, Beata. I just realized Kforgot to give you an important document," Beata's voice came from outside. She spoke in a low tone, likely trying not to disturb anyone else.
Joe's expression darkened. He didn't get up, simply replying from where he was. "You can give the document to Conrad tomorrow."
Outside, Beata frowned. From his tone, she could tell that Joe hadn't even come
to the door and clearly had no intention of opening it.
At first, she had been confident,
even thinking that Joe might enjoy a
little cat-and-mouse game. But now, she was left standing outside, and Joe didn't seem the least bit interested. If it had been anyone else, the door would have opened as soon as she knocked, and they would have had a pleasant evening together.
However, no further sounds came from the suite.
Beata bit her lip in frustration. This was the first time she had hit a dead end. She refused to believe that Joe was simply a hard nut to crack. She was determined to get through to hìm.
After arriving in Fachington, Natalie went straight home. On the way, she tried calling the maid several times, but none of her calls were answered.
Finally, the nanny picked up and informed her that Austin had fired her. She didn't have any information about the three children's situation.
Natalie felt a cold sweat break out on her skin.
When she finally reached her house, she was horrified to find it empty.
