Chapter 1953
chapter1953
Joe pondered for a moment. "Over the years, we've gathered some information. His fiancée's last name is Martin, but only the people in his household have seen her. No one else has.
"Besides, despite his young age, he's incredibly shrewd and ruthless. A man like him wouldn't easily let others uncover his secrets.
"And as for the person who led him to us, we still haven't found a single clue. There's no way to confirm if she's really Vivian. If she were, she would have come to us without hesitation."
Skylar nodded slightly. "There's one more thing. If we were able to come to this place, then others might be able to as well. What worries me is that someone might use Manfred's identity to target us."
They weren't afraid of being targeted, but they couldn't let anything interfere with their way back home.
"In the past three years, he hasn't made any moves against us or tried to contact us again. Have you thought about going to Vlario to see for ourselves?" Joe asked gently.
Since arriving in this world, they had remained in Graystone.
Skylar had always believed that staying here was their best chance of returning home.
Graystone's environment suited them better. After all, they had traveled from another world, and their bodies differed slightly from the locals.
Fortunately, Skylar knew medicine and could also craft amulets for protection.
Her expression turned solemn as she hesitated. "I need to think this through. Leaving Graystone... is it worth it?"
"No rush. Even if we decide to go to Vlario to investigate, it doesn't have to be right away. Some things require careful planning,"
He didn't want Skylar to exhaust herself. Ever since they had arrived, she had suffered from occasional insomnia.
Skylar smiled. "You're right. There's no need to rush. I'll think about it more.
"By the way, when Manfred mentioned Vivian, there was something in his expression-something like affection. If the Vivian he spoke of is truly our Vivian,
then..."
"Having feelings for Vivian isn't surprising. But he and Vivian aren't suited for each other. Forget their personalities-they're from completely different worlds. Liking her means nothing," Joe cutan calmly.
Besides, Vivian was still young.
Too young to be thinking about relationships.
That would just be childish.
Skylar said nothing more. She trusted her instincts, but this time, she hoped she was wrong.
She hoped that Vivian was really their Vivian. But she didn't want Vivian entangled with Manfred.
For Vivian, getting emotionally involved with him would only bring obstacles and heartbreak when it was time to leave.
A few days later, at the foot of a mist-covered mountain, a group of travelers paused at midday to rest.
After having a simple meal, Vivian and Manfred took a walk nearby. The mountain was intriguing.
Though they were clearly at its base,
Westward for a short distance unexpectedly led theel nes
the edge of a cliff.
The recent streak of rainy weather had left the entire mountain
shrouded in mist, making it impossible to see how deep the cliff
truly was. The dense fog created an eerie illusion, making it seem bottomless.
It felt as if one wrong step would send them plummeting to their doom.
Vivian wasn't afraid of heights. Yet, faced with the unknown depths before her, she instinctively took a step back.
"Scared?" Manfred asked softly, noticing her retreat.
