The person standing in front of Skylar's car was none other than Alina.

As soon as Alina saw Skylar approaching, she immediately grew tense, her earlier distracted demeanor quickly replaced by discomfort. She nervously met Skylar's gaze.

Skylar's gaze darkened imperceptibly as she saw Alina.

"Skylar, I... just now..." Alina began, her voice faltering. She had prepared reasons in her mind, but as soon as she met Skylar's gaze, all of her excuses felt empty.

Last time, she had been able to believe her own story. But this time, after seeing her at the hospital and hearing Theodore's parents speak of her as the third party, all the explanations she could offer seemed utterly untrustworthy.

"I saw everything just now. You don't need to explain," Skylar cut her off, her voice firm.

She didn't want to listen to Alina's explanation anymore. Having witnessed it twice with her own eyes, what had happened and the truth of the matter was unmistakably clear.

"I..." Alina's face turned pale, even more so than before. Her complexion had already been drained of color, but now she looked even more fragile.

Skylar walked up to the car and opened the door.

Seeing Skylar's demeanor, Alina quickly said, "Skylar, I'm sorry. I don't know what's been going on with me lately. I told myself that Harvey was the one I wanted to spend my life with, but then Theodore, someone who had once dazzled me in my youth, appeared out of nowhere. I've tried to be calm, but I just can't seem to calm my feelings.

"I know I shouldn't have kept my options open, and I never told Harvey the truth. I'm sorry. I'll tell him everything. I... I don't understand why I've become someone so selfish, someone I would've once looked down on."

Skylar paused for a moment after hearing Alina's words, contemplating before responding, "So, you don't love Harvey. You love yourself more."

With that, she opened the car door and got in. Without another word, she drove off.

Alina stood there, watching as the car disappeared, her eyes filling with tears.

She stood frozen for a long time, lost in thought. She thought, "Is it true? When you want everything, you end up with nothing?"

She had no idea how much time passed before her phone's ringtone finally snapped her back to reality.

She didn't even check who was calling. She just picked up the phone in a daze.

"Hello..."

"Theodore just came out of surgery. The first thing he asked when he woke up was about you. Get over here right away!

"But let me make myself clear, if you've ruined my son's good marriage, you're going to have to take responsibility. You'll marry my son but don't even think about asking us for a huge gift, and we're not buying you a house in Jipsburg either."

"Why are you saying all this to her? What if she gets upset and throws a tantrum

Alina heard the voices of Opal and Warren coming from the phone.

She had never really considered what Theodore's parents were like, or what their family situation was. College romance was simple, sparked by attraction, with both sides young and full of idealistic dreams for the future.

So, as they grew older and learned more about choices and compromises, they couldn't help but long for that carefree love from their younger days.

But now...

A gust of wind blew, stinging Alina's face. It was cold. It was almost painful.

She exhaled deeply, feeling as though she needed to give closure to that chapter

of her youth. She turned around and headed back to the hospital.

As she stepped into the hospital, Alina failed to notice the car parked nearby. Harvey stood close, having overheard every word of the

exchange between Skylar and Alina. He also caught the moment Alina seemed momentarily dazed after answering the phone before she turned and disappeared back into the building.

Half an hour later, Skylar parked her car, grabbed her bag, and got out, preparing

to head home. As she pulled her phone from her bag, a message from Harvey appeared on the screen.

"Skylar, I understand now what happened with Alina and her first love. Don't worry. I know what I need to do."
