Chapter 1766

chapter1766

To Thelma's surprise, when she met Skylar today, she was unexpectedly

approachable, smiling as soon as she got into the car.

"This is a cashmere scarf I knitted myself. I hope you like it," Thelma said, handing it over.

Knitting had been one of her hobbies since childhood-gloves, hats, scarves, and clothes. Nowadays, when anxiety struck and she couldn't calm her mind, knitting scarves for herself was her way of finding peace.

Skylar was pleasantly surprised. "You're talented. A handmade scarf feels so much more personal. I love it."

"I knew you'd like it. I have one too," Charles said proudly, his eyes gleaming with a touch of boastfulness, his tone dripping with pride.

Thelma sighed with relief.

The journey was long, taking several hours. Over time, Skylar and Thelma got more comfortable with each other.

Thelma began to share some of the incidents from her family's past. At first, she hadn't thought much of them, but after hearing Charles mention the possibility of negative forces being involved, she realized just how strange some of those events had been.

For years, she had been focused solely on helping her grandmother, Maia Blair, and her brother, Calvert Johnston, never considering how those incidents might be connected.

"It's still just a theory that something negative might be involved. If not, it could be something human-made. You should really think about whether anything unusual happened before your parents passed away," Skylar suggested gently.

Thelma nodded thoughtfully, her mind beginning to turn over the possibilities.

Her parents had passed away many years ago, and many details had faded with time. They had always been humble, hardworking people who led simple lives without ever causing trouble. It seemed unlikely they had enemies who would go to such lengths to harm them.

But in the years since, Thelma had encountered all kinds of people and situations. Sometimes, the most improbable things would turn out to be true.

It was a plausible theory, but she wondered how it related to Maia and Calvert.

The four-hour drive passed quickly, and soon, they arrived at Liberty County, where they made their way to Thelma's home.

As they exited the car, Charles quickly pulled a mask over his face to conceal his identity.

Thelma did the same, both of them wearing identical masks.

Skylar smiled faintly, her lips curling upward.

Charles had always been a well-known figure, and many people recognized him. Meanwhile, Thelma had grown up in Liberty County, her neighbors would easily recognize her. By wearing masks, they ensured that if they encountered anyone, they wouldn't be immediately identified.

The neighborhood in front of them was an old one. There were no clear distinctions between pedestrian and vehicle lanes, so the car was parked right next to the building's entrance.

"This is it. It may be messy inside. The complex hasn't had property management for years. When Grandma lived here, she used to clean every day.

"After the fire, I cleaned up the place

a bit. The kitchen was the worst, but the other two bedrooms weren't too belma explained as they made their way up the stairs.

As they walked through the hallway, Skylar and Charles could see that the place

was dirty and disorganized, as Thelma had said.

Many residents had left their belongings in the hallway, cluttering the common space.

The lack of cleaning was evident, with trash scattered across the floor. Skylar couldn't help but frown at the sight.
