Chapter 1781
chapter1781
Late at night, the sound of a ringing phone startled Skylar and Joe awake.
Still groggy, Skylar reached for the phone. For a moment, she was disoriented.
"Who's calling?" Joe asked, his voice drowsy.
Skylar glanced at the screen and answered, "It's Charles."
The voice on the other end introduced himself. "Is this Ms. Skylar Sullivan? I'm a police officer. There's been a car accident..."
As Skylar listened, her face turned pale. "Are Charles and the woman with him in critical condition?" she asked, her voice trembling.
When it came to her loved ones, she couldn't remain calm.
Joe, now fully awake, rose quickly to grab clothes for them both. He also called Edgar, instructing him to come over immediately.
By the time Joe was done, Skylar had ended the call. Under the lights, Skylar's face was ashen.
"We need to go to the hospital now. They're at the Amberglade Hospital," she said, her voice steadier. "I'll let my mother know."
The car accident had been severe. Both Charles and Thelma were undergoing emergency surgery.
The driver responsible had been apprehended at the scene. Although there were no surveillance cameras at the accident site, a nearby shop's camera had recorded the crash.
The news of Charles' accident shocked everyone in the family. Janine, along with Steven and others, rushed to the hospital in a panic. Harvey, who was vacationing abroad, began arranging for a flight back.
By the time Skylar arrived at the hospital, Janine and Steven had also just arrived.
Janine, eyes red from crying, leaned weakly against Ted. "How could this happen? What did the police say? And what did the doctors say?"
Steven stared at the operating room, his expression heavy.
Skylar shook her head. "The police are still investigating. The driver has been caught, but Charles' and
Thelma's conditions remain unclear. They're both still in surgery, and the doctors said they're in critical condition."
Hearing this, Janine's vision darkened. If not for Ted supporting her, she might have fainted.
"They'll be fine," Ted said gently, trying to comfort her.
Janine nodded, murmuring to herself as if to reassure herself, "Yes, they'll be fine. They must be fine."
Steven's expression was grim. After glancing at Janine and Skylar,

They were driving at night, and there were not many cars on the road. How could such a serious accident happen? He had heard that Charles' car was almost completely O deformed, with all airbags deployed.
It felt deliberate, as if the other driver had been engaging in reckless driving on purpose.
"I'll go with you," Joe said.
Steven nodded. "Alright."
The two men left while Skylar stayed behind with Janine. At this point, all they could do was wait and hope for good news.
Both victims had already been through so much hardship, and now, this accident
-it felt as though fate was playing a cruel joke.
"They must be okay. They must," Janine muttered, trembling slightly.
Charles had endured many hardships growing up. Even after entering the workforce, things hadn't been smooth for him.
Now, he had finally found someone he loved and was about to get married and settle down. How could such a severe accident happen now?
