Chapter 1946

chapter1946

"Are you... Are you Vivian? Mr. Atkinson's fiancée?" Mabel asked, still holding onto a sliver of hope.

She refused to believe it. The person in front of her couldn't possibly be the one. She must be an imposter.

Manfred's fiancée couldn't possibly exist. Nobody had seen her, and he couldn't have suddenly had a fiancée.

Vivian didn't know how to respond at first. Technically, she was indeed Manfred's fiancée. But three years had passed, and she thought Manfred had publicly dissolved their relationship.

But clearly, that wasn't the case.

She thought, "So what does Mabel mean to Manfred? Or was I mistaken yesterday? Maybe it's all been a misunderstanding fueled by the gossip about Manfred and Mabel."

After a brief hesitation, Vivian said calmly, "Now that you've seen me, what do you want to say?"

Mabel felt a strange unease rise within her. It was as though their roles had been reversed. Just yesterday, Mabel had been the one looking down on Vivian, offering her a chance to serve as a maid instead of a beggar.

Yet now, Vivian was Manfred's fiancée.

And Mabel was the one being questioned. That feeling was more unbearable than anything Mabel had ever felt before.

Taking a deep breath, Mabel's face hardened with hostility. "Who exactly are you? What is your purpose with Mr. Atkinson? I bet you're not really his fiancée. How did you manage to seduce him?"

With a look like that, Mabel believed that Vivian was some sort of manipulative fox. Most men couldn't resist a woman like her.

Maybe Vivian was sent to seduce Manfred, a spy ready to strike at any moment.

Others might be easily deceived, but Mabel wouldn't be.

Vivian's voice remained calm as she responded, "You already know who I am. As for whether or not I'm Manfred's fiancée, you have your answer. Now, it's my turn to ask you. What is your relationship with Manfred?"

"Ms. Martin, she's Deputy General Lynch's sister. She has no connection with Mr. Atkinson!" One of the maids, quick to notice, hurriedly spoke up, afraid that Vivian might misunderstand.

Manfred was very protective of Vivian, and there was no chance he would allow her to misunderstand anything regarding his relations with other women.

The truth was clear to everyone around Manfred. He never paid attention to Mabel. She had been the one to chase after him, with no response on his end.

Mabel's face turned bright red. "I... I and Mr. Atkinson..."

Vivian immediately understood the situation. It turned out she had misunderstood Manfred.

Just then, Kemp arrived. Seeing

scene before him, the veins on his

forehead started to throb. He

couldn't help but wonder if Mabel had completely lost her mind.

"Mabel, who gave you the nerve to barge in like this? Didn't your brother explain things to you? You've always been delusional, but now you dare to come here and spout nonsense in front of Ms. Martin? Are youdooking for trouble?"

Kemp was genuinely angry. His anger wasn't as dangerous as Manfred's, but the fact that Manfred cared for Vivian meant he would never allow her to be misled.

Mabel's face flushed with further embarrassment. She bit her lip in disbelief as she looked at Kemp.

"Why are you being so harsh with me, Kemp? I haven't done anything wrong. I'm just worried Mr. Atkinson is being deceived, so I came to verify her identity.

"Maybe you've all been tricked. She might not even be Mr. Atkinson's fiancée; she could be a spy."

Kemp showed no mercy. His words struck her like a slap to the face. Her whole face felt like it was burning.

Vivian furrowed her brows slightly. "Manfred is not someone who can be easily deceived, and I'm not a spy."

"Just because you say you're not doesn't mean you're not. You dare to call him by his name? Who do you think you are? How can you have the right to speak his name like that?"

Mabel was seething with jealousy.

She wanted to marry Manfred and call him by his name, but she didn't dare. She wondered how someone like Vivian could dare to do what she couldn't.

"Shut your mouth!" Kemp snapped angrily.
