Chapter 1793

chapter1793

Annie snapped back to reality and replied with little enthusiasm, "This brand had quality issues before. If I take this job, my career might end right here."

Over the years, she had been through a lot. The live streaming industry was a mixed bag with all sorts of complications. A single misstep could undo all her hard work.

Recently, she had been feeling mentally and physically tired and had started

longing for a stable life. She even considered finding someone she could trust and marry.

Not long ago, she had run into Steven with his wife and their two children. The happiness radiating from their family of four was palpable, and it was clear to anyone watching that Steven deeply loved his wife.

Their children were adorable and well-behaved, and the joyful smile on his wife's face had lingered in Annie's mind for a long time.

For a fleeting moment, she imagined herself in his wife's place. Perhaps, that was her last remaining regret over the years.

Seeing Skylar now brought Steven back to her thoughts, dampening her affection for her young boyfriend, someone she had relied on heavily in the past two years.

Her boyfriend cum assistant, Errol Greer, frowned, clearly displeased. "Most brands on the market have had issues at some point. You're just overreacting.

"Besides, they've learned their lesson and will be extra cautious moving forward. We don't have to outright reject them, do we? They're hoping to use your influence to elevate their brand and regain public trust."

"It's not that simple," Annie replied coldly. "Drop it. Tell them we might work together in the future, but I need to rest for a while. I've been feeling unwell."

"I've already told them you'd agree! If I go back now and say no, they'll think I'm unreliable. I don't even know how to explain this to them," Errol said, his frustration evident.

Annie suddenly fixed her gaze on him, her eyes sharp.

"What are you looking at me like that for?" Errol asked, uncomfortable under her scrutiny.

"How much did they pay you?" she asked, her tone icy.

Errol's eyes flickered with guilt. "What are you talking about? Why would take money from them? Don't + know better? I'm your boyfriend, and I just want you to earn more."

Annie's expression turned colder as she took a sip of tea, her head lowered. "How long have we been together?"

"A year," Errol answered, confused as to why she'd bring that up now. This wasn't the time for romantic talk-it was a discussion about work.

No wonder some team members had privately gossiped that Annie had lost her drive as she got older, turning down so many job offers she might regret it later.

They had also complained about reduced bonuses due to a lack of work in the past two months.

Errol genuinely believed he was acting in the team's best interests. To him, Annie was simply indulging in leisure at the peak of her earning potential.

If someone else's popularity surged in the meantime, she might lose her place in the industry altogether.

"It's been a year. Time really flies," Annie said, suddenly feeling disinterested in the relationship.

It was true that people who weren't on the same wavelength couldn't connect emotionally, no matter how physically close they were. Over time, the relationship just felt pointless.

She thought that if she hadn't seen Skylar today, she might have continued this relationship, citing her boyfriend's good looks and pleasing physical presence.

But now, she found it all meaningless for reasons she couldn't fully explain.

"Yes, time really does fly. Please listen to me this time, okay? Just take the job: Once it's done, I'll book us a vacation and make sure you're well-rested. Does that sound good?" Errot pleaded, his mind fixated on the deal.

Unbeknownst to her, Errol had indeed accepted a significant payment from the

brand. To him, it felt justified.
