Chapter 1716
chapter1716
Hubert felt a wave of guilt wash over him as he realized how hurt Thora must have been when she overheard his mother's harsh words.
"Mom, it's not that Thora can't have children. It's me who never wanted kids. I hate taking on responsibilities. And we've divorced; it was my fault," he said, his voice heavy.
With that, he ended the call abruptly.
He gazed out of the window, watching as Thora entered the subway. Before stepping on, she didn't even glance back.
Thora had truly let him go.
...
A few days later, Thora came as scheduled.
But this time, after finishing her lesson with Vivian, she didn't leave immediately.
"Mrs. Martin, I'd like to speak with you alone," Thora said.
Skylar looked at her with a warm smile, nodding in agreement. "Sure, let's take a walk in the garden."
"Alright."
Once they were in the garden, Thora said, "Mrs. Martin, I owe you an apology."
"An apology?" Skylar asked, surprised.
Thora smiled and nodded. "Yes. I'm sorry, but I won't be able to continue teaching Vivian anymore. I'll be leaving soon to study abroad. A few years ago, a music group wanted me to join, but I gave it up for my family. Now, I want to pursue my dreams and see the world."
Although Skylar was taken aback, she supported Thora. "That's alright. I support you."
"I won't be leaving until next month, but I have some very capable friends. I'make sure to recommend them to you. Honestly, the only thing I'll miss when I leave is Vivian. She's the most talented student I've ever taught."
Thora felt a twinge of regret. If Vivian were her daughter, she could have taken
her abroad. But that wasn't the case.
Skylar smiled. "Thank you. Vivian will miss you too, Thora."
It was clear to see that Thora was in a much better place now. She was no longer the restrained, enduring figure she once was-the one who had confined herself to an invisible box of limitations.
The current Thora seemed like an eagle soaring through the skies, ready to claim
her domain, see the wider world, and experience its offerings.
With her talent, she truly could fly higher and achieve greater things.
Harvey had had a long day, finally getting home at 8:00 pm. It wasn't too late, but it had certainly been a busy day.
When he opened the door, the scent of food filled the air. His gaze fell on the high heels by the door.
Instantly, the fatigue from the day lifted, replaced by a deep, somber expression. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, a coldness creeping into his features.
In the kitchen, Alina, who had been
busy preparing dinner, heard the
sound of the door opening and quickly called out, "You're back? I'm
just finishing up the last dish. Go
wash up, and dinner will be ready in
a minute."
Alina was a good cook, often preparing meals at home, but Harvey also knew his
way around the kitchen when he had the time.
After changing into his slippers, Harvey walked toward the kitchen.
Alina, focusing on stirring the dish, didn't notice him approaching. She assumed
he was going to change or wash up before coming to the table.
However, Harvey stood at the kitchen door, his sharp gaze fixed on Alina as she moved around, preparing the meal.
