Chapter 1720
chapter1720
Opal now had an intense dislike for Alina, convinced she was nothing more than a manipulative vixen who had ruined their family's peace. When Alina mentioned Lulu, Opal's face darkened further.
"If it weren't for you running their relationship, do you think Lulu would have stayed away after Theodore's car accident? She even called you. Lulu is just too kind."
Warren chimed in with equal displeasure, his tone stern. "Theodore's condition is still uncertain. He's in surgery."
Moments ago, Alina could convince herself to excuse their hostility as worry for their son. Now, she felt no need to justify it.
They clearly didn't like her. They preferred Theodore's fiancée, Lulu, which explained why Theodore kept vacillating between them.
Taking a deep breath, Alina said evenly, "I don't know how Theodore explained our relationship to you, but I didn't interfere in his engagement."
"If you weren't intent on being with him, why would you come to the hospital?" Opal's voice was sharp, and her beliefs were unshakable.
Alina felt humiliated. "If you have any doubts, you can ask Theodore when he wakes up."
Just as she finished speaking, her gaze shifted, and she suddenly spotted Skylar. Her face turned pale in an instant.
Skylar nodded at her politely but said nothing.
But Alina seemed to be in a daze as if she had lost her sense of self. She never imagined running into Skylar here. This encounter was far worse than their previous one.
Her lips parted as if to speak, but no words came. In this situation, the truth was painfully evident.
Just then, Alexander approached quickly.
He went straight to Skylar. "Skye, thank you for everything. It's just a minor surgery, you should head home and rest."
Skylar smiled calmly. "With Edgar at home, there's no rush. I'll leave once Caleb's surgery is done. Mr. Gardner Senior, you can wait in the ward if you'd like. The surgery should finish soon."
Despite his age, Alexander was in good health. "No need. Let's wait together for a bit."
Skylar nodded in agreement. Then she caught Alina watching her from the corner of her eye.
After a moment, Alina seemed to snap out of her daze and turned to Opal and Warren.
"Mr. Webster and Mrs. Webster, it's clear that I'm not welcome here. In that case, I'll leave."
With that, she hurried out, her steps unsteady.
Warren and Opal
were taken aback.
They had assumed Alina was hopelessly in love with their son, which explained her sudden
reappearance after all these net
years,
seemingly intent on disrupting his engagement.
But now, after facing only a hint of indifference, she had spun on her heel and stormed off, as if the very thought of staying another moment was unbearable.
The couple exchanged uneasy glances, a flicker of regret passing between them. If it turned out that Theodore had been chasing after Alina al along, and they had driven her away with their harsh words, he would undoubtedly be upset when he came out of surgery.
The thought of alienating both sides weighed heavily on them—they didn't want to
risk losing everything in this precarious situation.
Skylar had been observing the whole scene from a distance, her expression remaining neutral, though she felt a twinge of discomfort.
Seeing Alina, someone Harvey cherished so deeply, being treated with such disdain, it felt as though someone had struck at Harvey's pride.
Skylar had only met Theodore once, and she wasn't trying to be biased toward Harvey. But she genuinely thought Theodore was no match for Harvey.
As for Alina... beauty was in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes, the allure of the first love wasn't simply a matter of who was better or who won.
Half an hour later, Skylar left the hospital.
As she approached her car, she noticed someone was standing in front of it.
