Chapter 1724

chapter1724

The car window was partially open. A gentle evening breeze flowed in through the crack.

After about ten more minutes, Alina calmed herself and asked, "Did you know about everything?"

Harvey, having known for some time, had called off the renovation and became cold toward her in the following days. He had even refused the meals she cooked, not because of their taste but because he felt repulsed by her presence.

Alina felt filthy, and her thoughts were a mess. She knew she had betrayed him. "I knew from the day Theodore came to your house," Harvey said, his voice low and cold.

At those words, Alina's face drained of color.

That night with Theodore, everything had spiraled out of control. She hadn't thought about the consequences. Now, after time had passed and she had begun to reflect, she felt immense guilt toward Harvey and their relationship.

Facing Harvey, she felt unbearably ashamed. "I'm sorry, Harvey. I betrayed you... and I betrayed this relationship."

Harvey had put far more into their relationship than she had. He had been fully committed and responsible for their relationship. In contrast, she had only brought betrayal and deceit.

Harvey gave a slight smirk, his lips curling in bitter amusement. "So, you've come to your senses now, have you?"

Alina couldn't bear to meet his gaze. She was afraid of seeing nothing but hate in his eyes or perhaps a mocking reminder of her infidelity.

She lowered her head and wept, the tears falling relentlessly. She regretted it deeply, especially after the calm she had found earlier in the ward.

"I'm sorry, I truly am, Harvey. I know you were sincere with me, and I failed you. I betrayed your trust."

She knew that for the rest of her life, whenever she thought of Harvey, she would regret it.

As she cried uncontrollably, Harvey, who had been angry, suddenly felt it dissipate when he looked at Alina.

He said in a low voice, "I forgive you."

Alina lifted her tear-filled eyes in disbelief, her gaze full of hope as she looked at

him. "Harvey... would you really forgive me? Then... I... I promise I'II—"

"We'll just be friends from now on," Harvey said, his words final.

The time had come for him to let go of the relationship. When there was betrayal, no matter how much- someone changed, the feelings could never return to what they once were.

The light that had flickered in Alina's eyes quickly vanished, leaving her in darkness.

Harvey spoke again, his tone firm. "I'm leaving."

Alina sat frozen, unable to respond.

She could hear Harvey getting out of the car, the door closing after him.

disappeared, just like Harvey. He was gone, and from now on, there would be no more Harvey in her life.

She had lost someone as good as Harvey.

Unable to hold back any longer, she collapsed against the steering wheel and cried her heart out.

...

The next day, Skylar learned about Harvey and Alina's breakup. It was Janine who called to tell her.

"Did Harvey and Alina have a flight? It's normal for young couples to argue sometimes, but whenever I ask Harvey, he won't say anything. He just said they broke up. I was thinking of inviting them overfor dinner today," Janine said on the phone.
