Chapter 1824

chapter1824

Manfred abruptly turned to look at Vivian.

Their eyes met.

By now, Vivian had pieced together the situation. The middle-aged couple in front of her must be Manfred's parents.

It seemed that something terrible had befallen Cyril, and they were blaming Manfred, trying to force him into a confession. They even dragged ghosts into their accusations.

As Vivian's indignation on Manfred's behalf grew, he unexpectedly turned to look at her.

Her face brightened instantly, and she walked over, her voice soft. "I brought the cake and the pasta we talked about last time."

Manfred's gaze softened as he looked at the bag she carried.

This scene sent a chill down Randall's and Zea's spines. They couldn't recall ever seeing Manfred smile like that. Yet now, after a brief glance at a particular spot, he turned and smiled at an empty chair. The smile was filled with an unfathomable tenderness.

"What are you looking at, Manfred? Are you seeing something-a ghost? Is it that female ghost Cyril mentioned?" Zea asked, her face pale with fear.

Despite asking, she wasn't entirely convinced. If there truly had been a ghost haunting Manfred all these years, she should have been scared out of her wits long ago, not free to torment him as she pleased.

Still, strange things always seemed to happen around him. She wondered how he could have survived all her attempts to starve or freeze him to death over the years.

"Can you really see ghosts? Is that the female ghost the maids spoke of? Who is she, exactly?" Randall demanded, his brow furrowing deeply.

He had never liked Manfred, who had been distant from him since childhood. Unlike Cyril, who always tried to please him, Manfred had grown even more estranged after his mother's death. Now, seeing Manfred's behavior, an inexplicable sense of fear began to rise in his heart.

At the sound of their voices, Manfred turned his gaze toward them. The tenderness and smile he had shown to Vivian vanished entirely, replaced by an icy coldness.

"There is no female ghost," Manfred said in a low voice.

In his eyes, Vivian was an angel who had descended from the heavens, while Manfred was the true "ghost", a ghost consumed with thoughts of how to end these people's lives.

"You! If you say there's no ghost,

then explain-how did Cyril get hurt? The mansion has guards, and there

are so many maids. How could Cyril have been injured?" Randall O demanded angrily.

In the entire mansion, only Manfred had a reason to harm Cyril. Randall knew well that Cyril had things Manfred would never have, like a father's love.

He also knew Manfred longed to be close to him but had always been kept at a distance. It was the same way he could never feel any affection for Manfred's mother.

Zea cried out, "It's you! You're the only one in the house who hates Cyril."

"He's getting what he deserves. Instead of wasting time questioning me, you should be focusing on how to silence the gossip in the city.

Right now, everyone in Vlario.ne

probably talking about how Cyril has become useless," Manfred sneered coldly.

"You! Cyril is your brother! How could you say such things about your brother? Are

you laughing at him?" Randall was livid.
