Chapter 1886
chapter1886
At this moment, the night sky was not only graced by the moon but also blanketed with countless stars.
In the modern world, she rarely saw so many stars.
Now, gazing at the star-filled sky, she suddenly felt that all the romance in the world paled in comparison to the natural beauty before her.
"So beautiful," Vivian said, unable to tear her eyes away.
No wonder so many people came to the lake.
Even though it was cold, the combination of the stunning lake scenery and the breathtaking night sky made everything around feel wonderful.
Manfred had never been on a lake cruise before. It was only after asking the housekeeper earlier that he learned of this place.
Seeing Vivian like this, he made a mental note to reward the housekeeper generously when they returned.
In truth, he wanted to say that the starry-eyed Vivian before him was the most beautiful sight in the world.
The two stayed on the boat until late at night, only returning to the Atkinson residence when it was very late.
As soon as they arrived, someone intercepted Manfred. "Mr. Atkinson, Mr. Atkinson, why are you only back now? Mr. Holland Senior has been waiting for you since daytime!"
"Grandpa?" Manfred frowned slightly.
He had just visited the Holland family yesterday. Why would his grandfather come looking for him today?
Hearing that it was Manfred's grandfather, Vivian said, "I'll go back to sleep then."
If an elder had come to see Manfred, it was undoubtedly something important. Manfred personally escorted Vivian back to her room before going to meet his grandfather. This act puzzled the servants in the residence.
What was going on? What was their lord doing?
could
It felt as if there was someone always around him, but no one, see this person. Some were even starting to speculate that thedord might have encountered a ghost.
More than two years ago, there were rumors of ghosts in the residence, but the chatter died down over time because no one had ever actually seen one.
But now... Could it be that their lord could see ghosts?
When Manfred entered, he saw Glen holding a book, his eyes nearly closing with exhaustion. He hadn't even asked for a rest in the guest room.
Manfred's feelings toward his grandfather weren't particularly deep. But Glen was his mother's dearest relative and had helped him escape from his torment, so Manfred respected him.
"Grandpa," Manfred greeted.
Glen lifted his eyes to look at him.
Perhaps because of the late hour and the dim lighting in the room, Manfred's face appeared a bit pale, with dark circles under his eyes. This made Glen frown. "Manfred, are you hiding something from me?"
"What do you mean?" Manfred asked in return.
Glen put the book down and walked over. As he approached, he scrutinized the
area around Manfred, including his sides and back, but saw nothing.
However, he faintly caught a whiff of a light, sweet fragrance-one that only women typically had. This wasn't a scent men usually carried.
Could it be the female ghost? No, how could a ghost have a scent?
"Can you see a female ghost? Is she here with you now? Manfred, this is very important. You mustn't hide anything from me," Glen demanded in a grave tone.
Though he was already old and had lived a long life full of varied experiences, he had never seen a ghost with his own eyes.
He had only heard tales of ghosts frightening people to death or draining their life energy, shortening their lifespans.
There were all sorts of stories and speculations about ghosts. But he had never encountered one.
In the past, he hadn't believed in such things, but now... he had no choice but to believe.
