Chapter 1899
chapter1899
Manfred had countless questions for Vivian, but this wasn't the right moment.
Just as he was about to reach for the copper mirror, Vivian immediately stopped him. "Wait a moment, you can't touch this copper mirror."
The mirror, crafted for women, bore intricate engravings tailored to their tastes. It carried a heavy, oppressive energy that could harm Manfred.
"If·
you touch it, you could fall ill," she added.
Manfred froze, his hand hovering midair before he slowly withdrew it. Vivian continued, "Have someone cover it with a red cloth and send it to your mansion. Let them know you'll arrange for its handling."
He trusted her completely. Vivian never spoke without reason. If she could identify the mirror's malevolence, she surely knew how to manage it.
"Manfred..." Crispin ventured, his voice hesitant after the extended quiet from Manfred.
Manfred turned to face them, his expression grave. "This copper mirror is a negative item."
"A negative item?" The words echoed in unison, confusion etched on their faces.
None of them had ever heard of such a term, but its ominous ring left little room for optimism.
"Yes. Your nightmares over the past two years are linked to this mirror," Manfred explained.
Bonnie's eyes narrowed in thought, then widened with realization. "Now that you mention it, I remember. The old mirror broke, and I bought this one over two years ago. Not long after, the nightmares began."
Vernon muttered under his breath, "Such a thing exists? No wonder you call it a negative item."
Without thinking, Vernon stepped forward, reaching for the mirror.
Manfred quickly grabbed his wrist. "Don't touch it. The negative energy is strong. If you touch it, you'll fall sick."
"What?" Vernon's face paled as he recoiled.
Crispin, who had also been about to approach the copper mirror, stepped back at Manfred's warning.
Bonnie's face turned pale with fear. "I look into that mirror every day and occasionally touch it... What will happen to me?"
"Women aren't as affected, but your maids have likely been unwell over the past two years," Manfred said, echoing Vivian's words.
His tone softened, a reflection of Vivian's gentle cadence, though none of them noticed, their attention fixed on the negative item.
Bonnie nodded quickly. "Yes! Now that you mention it, I recall that Teri and some maids have been sick
more often lately. They catch colds easily. I never thought it was
because of this mirror."
Crispin, having weathered countless
storms in his lifetime, quickly regained his composure. "What should we do now? Manfred, Since
you know this is a negative item, do you have a way to deal with it?"
Manfred calmly repeated Vivian's suggestion to handle the mirror. As his words sank in, relief washed over them. The color slowly returned to their faces.
"So, once the copper mirror is dealt with, I won't have nightmares anymore?" Bonnie asked gently. It was clear that the nightmares had taken a toll on her.
Indeed, anyone plagued by nightmares night after night would be driven to the brink of madness. Fortunately, Bonnie was an upright and honest person with a clear conscience.
That was likely why, despite the nightmares, her suffering was limited to physical
weakness during the day and had no other lasting effects.
Even so, Manfred remained cool and simply said, "Yes."
