Chapter 201
chapter201
Paul couldn’t contain his laughter. Maisy must be out of her mind if she thought her shallow excuses would work.
“And another thing,” Maisy declared confidently, “Skylar must have badmouthed the Williams family to Mr. Martin. That’s why the Martin Group refuses to work with us. Our company has taken a serious hit and might even go bankrupt. I need to get to the bottom of this.”
Paul chuckled. “Ms. Williams, how did you find out where Mr. Martin was?”
Maisy froze, and panic flickered in her eyes. “I just happened to run into him. There’s no rule saying I can’t stay at this hotel, is there?”
Paul looked at her as if she were a fool. “Do you think I can’t trace the investigator you hired? Don’t act like a smartass. If you harass Mr. Martin again, the Williamses will be finished.” His smile vanished, replaced by a chilling assertiveness.
Maisy’s face turned ashen as Paul strode toward the elevator, leaving her dejected. Seething with resentment, she sent a manipulative voice message to Janine, feigning regret to regain a foothold in the family. Despite her doubts, Janine agreed to meet.
Later, Paul messaged Skylar about Maisy’s presence. Skylar frowned; Maisy was like a persistent leech. To counter her, Skylar asked Paul for a reliable private detective. Once she had the number, Skylar set her plan in motion.
As she lay back, Skylar’s mind drifted to her past life. She remembered the sheer frailty she had endured, and how Maisy had used every psychological tactic to break her spirit. Back then, Maisy had even dabbled in dangerous, illicit substances she picked up from shady corners to torment those around her. Eventually, Maisy had accidentally ruined herself with those very same substances.
In this life, Skylar decided to expose Maisy’s illicit activities step by step. The "butterfly effect" of her rebirth had already changed things—Christopher, who was once inseparable from Maisy, was now relentlessly pursuing Skylar instead.
At the airport, Maisy spotted Joe again but was deterred by Paul’s cold stare. “I’ll make sure you lose everything!” she cursed under her breath.
Meanwhile, Alexander received a frantic call from his butler and hurried home. He was worried about Caleb, who hadn’t left his room for days. When Alexander finally entered, he was shocked by the scene. Caleb was lying on his bed, surrounded by a mountain of open books, his expression one of pure academic frustration.
